Thursday, April 14th

Taken from Triple Crown Records
With their debut record Ghosts, out on the band’s imprint 4Never Records through Triple Crown, The Gay Blades take their T. Rex/Bill Murray inspired live show and add more texture and color with the inclusion of keys, synths, strings, harmony and even bass (despite their mantra of “BUCK FASS”.) Ten eccentric and trashy pop songs scream for your attention – each one filled with curious wordplay and tireless metaphor. In “Dog Day Afternoon”, our hero, Clark Westfield takes hostages after a bank robbery goes awry in an attempt to win our affection. In “Why Can’t I Grow A Beard?” he takes cues from his idol, Brian Wilson, locking himself inside for years, becoming the recluse he knows he never could be. In “Robots Can Fuck Your Shit Up” we learn that robots have feelings too. “O Shot”, the record’s stand out track and first single, is all about drummer Puppy Mills’ glamorous and propulsive drums, which result in sound that‘s more Marc Bolan than Jack White, more Stooges than Eagles of Death Metal, more JSBX than Electric Six. New record Savages out now!

Vuvuzela is Victorian Music Box meets Carnival music in a 5 piece band consisting of Harp, Upright Bass, Piano, Accordion, and Drums. Art rock meets the death waltz for this truly unique musical experience. Comprised of Josh Benash and James O’Keeffe of Kiss Kiss fame, Vuvuzela has also been described as chamber music for the aching rockstar.

Hannibal Montana is a Post-Rock trio of multi-instrumentalists from New York State. All music is composed and arranged collaboratively by Ben Backus, Lucas Brode and Eric Castillo. Hannibal Montana’s self-titled debut full-length album is available for stream on their website and download as of June 1st, 2010 through their bandcamp page.

All three bands perform an All Ages show at Heirloom Arts Theatre on 155 Main Street in Danbury, CT on Thursday, April 14th at 7pm. Check out the Facebook invite.

This event is brought to you by Sub Rosa Party, Heirloom Arts Theatre and WXCI 91.7FM.

Danbury is still breathing – TOMORROW NIGHT!

Waylon Speed from Burlington, Vermont describe what they do as filthy underground outlaw dirt rock. I’ve also heard it coined “punkabilly”, as well as “speedwestern”, if you are looking for a box to put them in. Whatever you call it, it is undeniably great. They have performed in Danbury, CT a couple of times now and were selected to join last year’s Gathering Of The Vibes festival in Bridgeport alongside the likes of Primus, Jimmy Cliff and Damian Marley and Nas. Their debut record, Georgia Overdrive, is getting regular spins on WXCI 91.7FM Western Connecticut State University and their website promises a new double disc record out in March of this year. Waylon Speed deliver nothing short of absolute precision during their live performances. Expect shredding guitar solos, soaring harmonies and blue collar charm in spades this Saturday, February 11th as they open the night at Heirloom Arts Theatre in Danbury, CT. Photo

Priding themselves on being the loudest band in the room, Ovlov craft alternative rock songs that are smart and infectious. Think Nirvana, Lemonheads and Dinosaur Jr and you’ll definitely be impressed with this Newtown rock outfit. They perform right after Waylon Speed on this bill. Check out their song Deep Fried Head. The Field Recordings could very well save the Danbury music scene. I was instantly impressed with these guys the first time I saw them perform as it was clear through just that one performance that they were a band that was trodding a different path. They have continuously evolved and are clearly not afraid of experimentation – something sorely lacking in many bands nowadays. They are eager, industrious and most importantly, very talented. I am so looking forward to ending my Saturday night in the arms of The Field Recordings. Photo

SAVE THE DATE – Oct 14th – HALLELUJAH THE HILLS in Danbury, CT

The following is courtesy of Misra Records
Hallelujah the Hills play a lush brand of folk-pop-rock rooted in a staunchly independent ethos. The band has toured with Silver Jews and Titus Andronicus, playing jaw-dropping sets all over the land. In addition, HtH provided all the pianos, organs, strings, and horns on Titus’ most recent, highly-acclaimed album, The Monitor. The boys are certainly the source of class on that epic release. Their Misra releases – Colonial Drones, Prepare to Qualify, and Collective Psychosis Begone – have garnered superb critical attention.

I am so pleased to present Hallelujah The Hills from Boston, MA on Thursday, Oct 14th at Larry’s 1 Elm Street Danbury, CT. Listen to WXCI 91.7FM radio every Monday from 5:30-7pm to hear tracks from their immaculate Colonial Drones record(2009). The band just recently completed a video for Put The Gurus In Charge. All the way from Belgium, The Tellers, will join them on this 2010 Fall Sub Rosa Party event.

NICE NEW OUTFIT C A P T U R A
Lapdance Academy Records 2010
Available for free download starting Tues May 25th HERE!

A rare breed of North-Atlantic heron was riding atop the head of the Loch Ness Monster during a solar eclipse on Friday the 13th and your camera was plugged into the wall back at the bed and breakfast. Shame on you. Fortunately, after a 12 month hiatus, NICE NEW OUTFIT reunited to play a seven-song set and – no thanks to you – the tape was rolling.

Recorded live on February 5th, 2010, at the Calhoun School for The Arts in NYC (where front-man Anthony Yacobellis is an elementary school math teacher) by Paul Powell (who’s usually pushing faders and adjusting microphones for NYC’s Mayor Bloomberg), CAPTURA lives up to it’s name. As a brief snapshot of a band reunited for just one weekend, this “album” lives up to both its photographic and musical definitions.

Featuring paint-peeling covers of Quicksand’s “Head To Wall” and GlassJaw’s “Cosmopolitan Bloodloss,” Nice New Outfit reveals their roots of yesteryear, while simultaneously providing us with a set of original material too tight to swipe a credit card through the chord changes.

With the bottomless pocket of rhythm section Tim Brennan and Jason Murray (of the touring blues act Joe Roberto & Poverty Hash) acting as a solid foundation for the glass and steel structure of guitarists Joshua Obijiski and Morgan Pearce, singer Anthony Yacobellis (founder of the long-running Sub Rosa Party in Danbury, CT) has room to perch atop the bell-tower, equal parts menacing gargoyle, beacon of solace and tempting siren.

Live video from the following night’s performance at Sub Rosa Party is available at YouTube.
