Ripken roundup: Huertes leads the Batter’s Box in shutout win

The Batter’s Box 6, Schwartz Law 0 — Brendan Huertes opened the game with four shutout innings and struck out six as the Batter’s Box topped Schwartz Law 6-0 last Sunday.

For the Batter’s Box, Clayton Bray went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Matt Clarke had a double and pitched a scoreless inning. Alberto Regalado had a single and also pitched a scoreless frame.

Griffin Root (triple, two RBI), Peter Neglia (one hit, one RBI, two runs scored) and Chris Ehlers (one hit, one RBI, two runs scored) also had big days at the plate for the Batter’s Box.

Jack Feinstein pitched for Schwartz Law and allowed a pair of unearned runs in four innings. He struck out nine.

Terzian Trucking 4, TPT Engravers 1 — Terzian Trucking moved alone into first place in a 4-1 win over TPT Engravers last Sunday.

The game turned in the bottom of the fourth inning when Terzian opened with three straight singles by Mike Diiorio, Jordan O’Brien and Chris Druin to take a 2-1 lead. Terzian then added two more runs in the fifth on hits by Kyle Spezzano and Jason Thornly, and an RBI groundout by Stephen Pare.

Kyle Woodring had two of TPT’s three hits and Chris Restaino had the other.

Druin struck out four batters on the mound and Andrew Matthews struck out five in 2 2/3 innings of relief pitching.

TPT starting pitcher Cory Acevedo held Terzian scoreless for three innings.

Cranbury roundup: Mustang Division matchup ends in tie

Gutter Guys 3, Tim’s Philly Steaks 3 — Evan Donahue’s (two hits, two RBI) fourth-inning double to score Travis Lajoie broke the ice, but it wasn’t enough to send Tim’s Philly Steaks out a winner, as the team tied with Gutter Guys 3-3 last Saturday.

Gutter Guys answered with three runs in the fifth inning, with the big hit a two-run double by Derek Faber to score Tyler Cappadona (two hits) and Ryan Whitney. Tim’s Philly Steaks responded with two runs in the sixth inning to tie it.

Bronco Division:

O’Neills 11, Crown Trophy 3 — Led by A.J. Hall (3-for-4, two RBI), Larry Joyce (2-for-3, two RBI), Zach Hurd (2-for-3), and Chris Clemens (2-for-3, RBI), O’Neills recorded 12 hits in an 11-3 win over Crown Trophy last Saturday.

Hall got the win on the pitcher’s mound as he struck out five and allowed just two hits in four innings. Zach Hurd struck out three in three innings of relief.

Tyler Cappadona reached base three times and also drove in a run for O’Neills.

Laurel AC 12, DJK Fuel 2 —Eddie McCabe hit two doubles and drove in four runs as Laurel AC topped DJK Fuel 12-2 last Saturday. Alec Parker hit a two-run single and Quinn Sandor had two singles and a run scored.

Sandor also pitched and combined with David Chuba to allow just two hits.

Oliver Harary stole three bases and scored two runs, Eric Hernandez hit a double and had two RBI, and Jake Cavicchia had a hit and a run scored.

For DJK Fuel, Renn Lints hit an RBI double and stole two bases. Clayton Bray also had an RBI single.
