The Board of Education should set aside partisan politics and listen to Mayor Boughton's advice. These children need long term leadership. They need someone who knows Danbury. Mayor Boughton's blog is on point. It isn't Democratic or. Republican. It is what is best for the students of DHS and the future of our town.

Dear Mayor Boughton,

The state closed the unemployment office in Danbury, forcing those without jobs to try and get to Waterbury (a hardship, for sure). What would stop the closure of the Danbury DMV from happening? Your logic (scare tactic to force unions to contractually 'give back') sounds feasible, but the closures and consolidations I'm hearing about seem to lack reason.

Further to this, a friend of mine was at the Danbury DMV this morning. A "rep" there told him they were definitely closing; last day August 11th. Sounds like this was in the works prior to the lay-offs the Governor is using as an reason for the closure.

It is already a 30 minute drive for me to Danbury. The problems/costs associated with this closure for motor vehicle sales businessess I can't even imagine (passed to consumer???).

Is there no way to stop this from happening?

I live in Danbury and let me tell you there are so many illegal immigrants her that it is all most impossible to get a job; they need to be more aggressive about going after illegal immigrant so that American can start finding work. It is easier to free up job by getting reed of the Mexican, then it is to make new ones.

The big ugly truth with the states money problems is that all are policy makers and elected politicians are mismanaging are funds we by gas ,go out to eat buy a soda pack of smokes and every paycheck of every worker in the state we send money in to the state in tax. Bernie MADOFF did it to his clients and the people we elect and send to hartford are doing it to us. there is tons of money going in to the state and then pissed away on social programs and other wastefull sp ending we can go on forever with that. my house is in order becouse i live within my means and the state needs to do the same so when i see these politicians stand up and pat themself on the back and say how hard the are working and agood jop they are doing just makes me ill they are doing a great jop of screwing the residents of conn. so lets leav the working people and the unions alone and get after the real problem

Mark, there's really 2 ironic points in this. As you've said, it is interesting that the union did not support an "Obamacare"-ish system, but even more ironic is their distrust of their fellow state union employees to keep them and their families well. What do these insiders know that we don't?

Peter, Medicare is losing billions and is in the process of cutting rates to hospitals and doctors. It is loaded with fraud - CBS News says that the amount of fraud in the system is more than all profits earned by all medical insurance companies combined. It is insolvant, encourages bad medical practices and a very bad example for you to use as a triumph for government-run healthcare.

Yes, I'll use it - if there's any left to use - because I was forced at the point of a gun to pay for it for my entire life, and I earned it. But if I had had a choice, I would have taken that money and paid for a private policy that I could count on. The lesson here is that our own government employees are telling is that they know that they cannot count on government-provided healthcare services.
