Getting involved in Greenwich

State and local issues affecting southwestern Greenwich

SW Greenwich RTM

(Spanish Translation Pending)

SW Greenwich RTM candidates are needed badly.  Byram has only 14 candidates for 17 seats.  Chickahominy 9 for 10, Pemberwick 17 for 20 seats.  This isn’t good, but it’s not a tragedy Pe♠ople will use this datum to argue that the RTM is too big and should be shrunk so there’s more competition.  I don’t agree.  Greenwich’s RTM, as the Greenwich Time has pointed out, is larger that CT’s legislature and New York’s, for that matter.  With 14 people representing Byram we still have more reps per 1000 people than any other legislative body in the US.  Why is it bad if we don’t have all 17 we should have?  Well, there’s an answer.  Theoretically if we don’t have all our reps and O.G. does, they can dominate town decisions, to Byram’s detriment (or pick your district).  Theoretically true, but practically speaking, negligible impact at best.  There just aren’t a lot of issues that pit one part of town against the other and I defy anyone to point out  five of them in the last five years.  The last 10 years.

Should we fill all the seats in SW Greenwich?  Yes.  And I encourage anyone interested in serving to contact their district Chair and ask to be considered.  My father is serving in Byram and if they need me, I may ask to serve too.  Read more about the RTM here.
