Getting involved in Greenwich

I note that the two front page, multi-decade town employee retirements were from southwestern Greenwich.  Charlene Abdal, Chickahominy and Dee Meilinggaard, Byram.  Charlene served the town for 34 years and Dee for an astounding 51 years.  Paula Belmont, who was mentioned in the Abdal article, is from Byram and has also been with the town forever.  She worked with Charlene for 28 years.  Her husband, Chickahominy’s Anthony “Nonie” Belmont passed away after working for the town for at least 50 years.

I know Dee because she lives next door to me and we share a driveway.  I’ve known Charlene forever.  I know Paula because I was friends with Nonie since I was 18, when I worked for him at the liquor store he part-owned.

Pure economics dictates that a large portion of Greenwich’s town employees are from our end of town.  Round Hill and Old Greenwich are simply too expensive for the average, or even the highest, municipal salaries.

Best of luck to Dee and Charlene in their retirements, and Nonie, we’ll always remember to “pay attention.”

Las Estrellas de el Pueblo Oeste de Greenwich

Observo que los dos anuncios de retiro acerca empleados de la cuidad por multi-décadas son de Greenwich al Sudoeste.  Charlene Abdal, Chickahominy y Dee Meilinggaard, Byram.  Charlene sirvió la ciudad por 34 años y Dee por unos increíble 51 años.  Paula Belmont, quien fue mencionada en el artículo de Abdal, tambien es de Byram y ha servido por mucho tiempo.  Ella trabajó con Charlene por 28 años.  Su marido, Anthony “Nonie” Belmont de Chickahominy murio, pero también trabajo con la ciudad por casi 50 años.

Conozco Dee porque ella vive al lado a mí y compartimos una calzada.  He conocido Charlene de mucho tiempo.  Conozco a Paula porque yo fui amigo con Nonie desde los 18 anos, cuando trabajé por el en la licorera que manejaba.

Por razones económicas una porción grande de los empleados de la ciudad de Greenwich viven en nuestro extremo de la ciudad.  Round Hill y Old Greenwich son simplemente demasiado costosos para el promedio, o aún los sueldos más altos, municipales.

Les deseo mucha suerte a Dee y a Charlene en sus retiros, y Nonie, recordaremos siempre “prestar la atención.”
