
Between Friday and Sunday, the New Canaan girls fifth grade basketball team won three playoff games.
The New Canaan fifth grade girls basketball team won three games in as many days over the weekend to advance to next weekend’s finale.
Following a playoff win over Southbury on Friday, New Canaan won a seesaw 21-19 game over Shelton on Saturday, thanks in large part to a late basket by Olivia Cosco and some terrific defensive play.
The early scoring was started by KK Marcus and Abby Carstensen as the score remained tight in the first quarter and New Canaan trailed 10-8 at the half.
In the second half, Lauren Bisceglia hit a big basket to get the team rolling. Libby Teford, Bisceglia and Marcus played made solid defensive stops and had a few steals.
Olivia Cosco, Katelyn Sparks and Cloe Shorten all contributed to the win with strong play up-and-down the court.
On Sunday, New Canaan breezed past Darien with a 21-10 victory.
New Canaan scored early with Carstensen, Marcus and Bisceglia leading the charge. The defense was solid with Tedford and Parks playing hard up top and Cloe Shorten pulling down rebounds.
The offense was clicking with Tedford getting in the scoring book and helping New Canaan take a 15-3 halftime lead.
In the second half, Kendall Patten extended the lead, and the defense prevented Darien from getting back into the game.
