Competing with only four girls, the Darien Level 4 travel gymnastics team placed second at the USAG Judges Cup in New Milford on Sunday.
In the 9-year-old age group, Juliana Jordao placed fourth with a 36.8 overall score. Juliana excelled on bars with a 9.4 and floor with a 9.3.
In the 8-year old age group, Christina Pizzani placed first with a 37.45 overall score. Christina scored a 9.5 on bars and a 9.55 on beam. Lizzie Canelli placed fourth with a 34.75, and Katie Asness, who was competing in her first meet, finished sixth with a 34.45.
Darien Y gymnasts start competing at Level 4; they are required to perform round-off back handspring on floor, cartwheel to side handstand dismount on beam, handstand flat back on vault and a back hip circle on bars during their compulsory routines.
