In its most recent match of the season, the New Canaan girls tennis team (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 5-2 at Greenwich.
Greenwich swept singles completion. New Canaan’s top singles player Courtney Gallagher was defeated by Greenwich’s Jen DeLuca 6-4, 2-6, 5-7 in the only match that went to a third set. At No. 2 singles, New Canaan’s Jensen Lee fell to Kesala 3-6, 1-6. At No. 3 singles, New Canaan’s Kate Howard was defeated by Samantha Stone 2-6, 3-6. At No. 4 singles, New Canaan’s Emily Brand fell to Daniell Cepelwicz 4-6, 1-6.
New Canaan fared better in doubles competition as the top team of Sara Greene and Kristin Laub defeated Greenwich’s Audrey Villemure and Julia Ackerman 6-1, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, New Canaan’s Amanda Merjian and Phoebe Wilks picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win. At. No. 3 doubles, New Canaan’s Tyler Kendall and Jackie Millisits fell to Anna Daccache and Mathilde van Tulder 2-6, 3-6.
Looking to get back on the winning track, New Canaan plays host to Darien at 4 p.m. today.
