The Huskies held off a late game rally from the Bearcats to capture a 26-21 win on Saturday in third grade Darien YMCA boys basketball.
The Huskies were lead in scoring by Isaac McMullin and Hudson Hearle as they tallied eight first quarter points to help the Huskies jump out to an early lead. Alec Medwar and Pearce Mahoney brought the Bearcats back in the second quarter with some solid shooting of their own. A timely basket by the Huskies’ Will San Jose helped the Huskies hold the lead at halftime.
Nick Lancaster, Luke Bradbury, Jack Zuro and Jack Pond of the Bearcats shadowed the Huskies on defense while the Huskies’ Jake Vairo’s hustle held the Bearcats at bay.
Will Tortorella of the Bearcats made it a very close game in the fourth quarter but Evan Smith, Ryan Jones and Louie Gorman of the Huskies all played key roles down the stretch while Jed Morgan’s ball-handling allowed the Huskies to hold on.
