The New Canaan High School varsity cheerleading squad earned a seventh place finish out of 15 teams at the 16th annual FCIAC competition held at Fairfield Warde High School on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The Rams performed a clean and sharp routine to a standing room only crowd. Fairfield Ludlowe placed first, followed by St. Joe’s in second and Greenwich in third. The New Canaan girls earned high marks in the dance and motion category, placing second in both.
Elena Kyriakos and Bridget Callahan, both cheer team veterans, earned spots on the All-FCIAC team. Kyriakos and Callahan competed individually on Jan. 24 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Their individual routines consisted of an individual cheer, three jumps and a tumbling pass.
The New Canaan varsity partner stunt group (Morgan Campbell, Bess Howard, Elena Kyriakos, Sara Levine and Emily Luciano), also competed on the 24th and tied for fourth place with Wilton and Trumbull.
The next competition for the varsity squad will be the Best Cheer Competition on Saturday, March 2 at New Milford High School.
The Rams are coached by Margaret DeMauro and Danielle Dumont.
This year’s roster includes seniors Bess Howard (captain), Sara Levine (captain), Emily Luciano (captain) and Ali Tubridy (captain); juniors: Elena Kyriakos, Katie O’Sullivan and Lauren Serena; sophomores: Bridget Callahan, Morgan Campbell, Samantha Johnson, Katherine Luciano and Shannan McDevitt; freshmen: Krishan Adalja, Tanaijah Carrafiello, Josephine Hardman, Louly Kaplan and Erica Spadaccini.
