Fairfield basketball clinic set for Sunday

Pete Carril, Pete Gillen, and Mike Maker will be featured speakers at the upcoming Fairfield University Coaches Clinic on Sunday. The event will take place at Alumni Hall, located on the University’s main campus. The clinic will be hosted by men’s basketball coach Sydney Johnson.

The clinic begins with registration and check in at 9 a.m. in the Alumni Hall foyer. Coach Johnson will begin the clinic at 9:45 a.m., followed by former Princeton University Carril who will speak about skills development. Following lunch, Gillen will speak on zone offense, while Maker will conclude the clinic with a session on man offense. A question and answer session will follow the formal presentations.

Individuals can register by contacting Kyle Koncz at (203) 254-4000, ext. 2791 or through email at kkoncz@fairfield.edu. The registration fee is $75. Coaching staffs with three or more members may register at rate of $50 per coach.

Fairfield men’s lax releases 2013 schedule

The Fairfield men’s lacrosse team, which is led by fifth-year head coach Andrew Copelan, will play a 15-game regular-season slate that includes eight home contests. The Stags lost to eventual national champion Loyola in the ECAC finals last season and did not make the NCAA Tournament despite going 12-4, with a program-best 7-0 start to the season and finishing the year 17th in the nation. It was the highest season-ending ranking in program history.

Highlights of the schedule include:
* Seven games versus teams that ranked in the top-25 in the NCAA RPI in 2012 and six opponents that ranked in the final 2012 Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll
* Five games versus teams that qualified for the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including the defending national champion
* Eight games versus ECAC Lacrosse League foes, including a first-ever meeting with Michigan
* A first-ever meeting with Navy, at home on Feb. 19
The Stags open the 2013 campaign with consecutive road games, beginning Feb. 9 at Stony Brook.
