John Queenan celebrated like a winner when he made a half-court shot at halftime of the Fairfield men’s basketball game Monday night at Webster Bank Arena.
It only took 22 hours to make it official for the Trumbull resident. The Tri-State Chevy dealers, who sponsor the promotion, awarded him a 2013 Cruze without waiting for official approval from their insurance company.
“It was the right thing to do,” said Leo Karl, the president of Karl Chevy in New Canaan.
After Queenan made the shot the crowd of 1,990 at the WBA erupted, but afterwards there was a debate about whether he had crossed the half-court line before taking the shot.
After the game, Fairfield University officials said the shot had to be reviewed before the prize was given. Meanwhile, news of Queenan’s shot went crazy on Twitter along with reports he might not receive the car.
You can stand down now. All is well.
