What happened on Pleasure Beach?

by:

The carousel building is now a pile of rubble. Photo by Morgan Kaolian/AEROPIX.

Local aviation legend Morgan Kaolian was recently shocked, and saddened, to see the old Pleasure Beach carousel and former bumper car buildings reduced to piles of rubble.

Was it the work of vandals?

Or something more, he asks.

Maybe it was the ravages of time (the amusement park has been gone for decades).

Still he wonders why both buildings fell to the ground around the same time.

Morgan shot these photos about 1:30 p.m. today.

Sounds curious; we’ll check it out too.

Boring Saturday night. Thought i’d do some surfing Thought I’d check out and show my kids where I used to vacation as a kid in the 70′s. My grandparents rented a cottage not far from pleasure beach every august. We would travel from Rochester ny to visit grandparents aunts, uncles and cousins. As kids spent the week fishing for snappers or shiners(small blue fish) on the rocks. Occasionally caught a nasty looking fish called a sea robin.Watched the Port jefferson go in and out.over the years I thought about going back seeing how the place is maybe try some fishing now it doesn’t see like a good idea.

I made the venture for the first time to Pleasure Beach just recently. I was saddened by all the destruction that has occurred. During my visit, I kept reminiscing of my childhood and vacations with my family. We, however, didnt have such a community in which to vacation with,we tented it. :o ) But the laughter, fun and innocence is still the same.

Did the vandals not have the same memories and wanted to destroy others?? Are they that heartless? I say YES!

On my visit two young ‘men’, and I use that term loosely, were walking onto the beach shortly after me. On further observation I noticed them stealing signs, breaking doors and also trying to tear the door off the old truck that sits abandoned. On my way off Pleasure Beach(3 hours later) there was a beautiful old wooden folding chair on the side of the road with its seat splintered. I saw that chair,it was in perfect condition…..Did someones grandmother sit on that chair and play bridge? Did a child sit at the dinner table not wanting to eat their lunch because they would rather be outside looking for seashells? Or simply was it the chair that Mom used to reach the top shelf where she had hidden the cookies???

If only the vandals thought before striking…..

This is a heart moving adventure,I recommend a visit to anyone that wishes to bring back their childhood memories,if only for a few hours. Maybe if enough people do this, Pleasure Beach could be revived, and also preserved

Vandals? Vandals with earth moving equipment? The pictures speak for themselves – 9/1 was an inside job.

I was part of a charade committee and I’ve smelled a rat for some time. No way an accident. What and who’s agenda? these were both structurally sound and I among others thought they should be restored. A culture of destruction exists in Bridgeport always pitted against creativity.

definitely the work of vandals, those structures (while old as hell) didn’t show any signs of caving in on themselves. i might head out myself and have a look.

Like everything else in Bridgeport, it probably was destroyed by vandals. There is so much destruciton in this city and it goes unnoticed by the authorities and city employees, etc. The city has departments that should have been monitoring the Pleasure Beach area, but choose to drive around, on tax payers money, and cruise around the various parks in the city, avoiding their duties. Noone cares anymore, Bridgeport is always going to be known as the armpit of CT…. I wonder why???
