“Safe and Sound,” a free drug collection for residents of Trumbull and Monroe only will take place Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Daniels Farm School, 710 Daniels Farm Road in Trumbull.
The program, according to the state Department of Consumer Protection, is designed to be a safe means of disposal for outdated or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications. It is planned in cooperation with the Trumbull/Monroe Health District.
Trumbull and Monroe residents may bring expired or unwanted prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines (including cold remedies and pain relievers), vitamins, nutritional supplements and veterinary medications in their original packaging or containers. They should use a permanent marker to cross out personal information, but leave the name of the medication on the label.
Items that will not be accepted are: sharps and needles, medical waste, mercury thermometers and medicine from nursing facilities or businesses.
All medications will be incinerated.
Registered pharmacists, a state drug-control agent and police officers from both towns will be involved in the event.
