The Pequonnock Yacht Club is moving to New Haven.
The 105-year-old club’s 250 members will be moving into the former Oyster Point Marina building, at 98 South Water St., after renovations are completed on the historic New Haven building.
According to stories published in the New Haven Independent, the yacht club had a hard time getting permission to move up there.
As if the club didn’t have a hard enough time dealing with the issues in Bridgeport, which left the club looking for a new home in the first place.
In 2007, after a lengthy court battle, Bridgeport agreed to pay the yacht club $4.75 million for its 3.5-acre parcel at 66 California St., right at the tip of the Steel Point peninsula.
The club received the payout after it refused to be pushed off its land, like other businesses had been, including the MOVE Yacht Club. MOVE is now, with the city’s help, planning to construct a new facility on Waterview Avenue.
But the Pequonnock club took the issue to the state Supreme Court, although the court’s ruling, which stated that the city had to incorporate the club into plans for the new Steel Point marina, was ignored.
I called the yacht club today to interview someone so I could write a story on the issue but the woman who answered the phone said: “You’ve written enough stories about us, we don’t want another story in the paper,” and then hung up.

See you later Bridgeport. Watch the place rot away. It’s a crying shame the only good thing in Bpt was asked (told) to leave.
Steel Point will never happen. You are a joke Bridgeport!!!!

We wish Bridgeport would take these recklesss, loud, obnoxious fools back!!! They are ruining the historic neighborhood they invaded. They are classless! Their loud parties, drunked behavior, and misuse of private land surounding their marina has become a constant nuisance to the City Point Residents.
