Missing man found in Westport

An 82-year-old man with Alzheimers was found in Westport this afternoon after being missing for 90 minutes in 45 degree weather.

Westport Police say they received a call shortly before noon from the man’s wife who was doing business in Town Hall. She told police her husband had been waiting in their car, but when she returned he was gone.

Police quickly arrived with a search dog. They also broadcasted a Code Red message to residents alerting them of the missing man. A short time later, a motorist heard the broadcast on her cell phone after safely pulling over. She immediately spotted the man sitting on the stone wall near the Baron’s Property North on North Compo Road, near East Main Street.

The man was transported back to Town Hall,  evaluated by EMS and reunited with his greatly relieved wife.

Police did not identify the man, but did say the couple was from Vermont.
