It looks like U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will announce Tuesday if Connecticut is still in the running for federal Race to the Top funds. Finalists for the second round will be name when Duncan appears before the National Press Club. Connecticut came in 25th out of 41 states that tried for funding in the first round. Only Delaware and Tennessee got money the first time around. Since then, Connecticut strengthened it’s high school graduation requirements and made other changes expected to better its chances at a $175 million windfall. Some say if a whole bunch more states don’t get money this time around, Obama’s educational reform movement is going to lose momentum fast. So far, it hasn’t been very stimulating.
