Shoplifting case dropped against Fontaine, she resigns from job

MILFORD — Shoplifting charges against WTNH television traffic reporter Desiree Fontaine were dropped today by Milford Superior Court Judge John Ronan after her attorney said she completed community service.
Her attorney, Hugh Keefe, also told the judge that Fontaine, 33, has resigned from her post as at the New Haven television station.
Ronan dismissed the shoplifting case against Fontaine at Keefe’s request. He advised the judge that Fontaine has completed 25-1/2 hours of community service which was done at the Spooner House in Shelton. He also told reporters outside the courthouse that Fontaine would be leaving Connecticut soon to do volunteer work with kids overseas.
He declined to say where she will be working, but added she will be considering job options once that is completed.
Fontaine, 33, had been charged with sixth-degree larceny, meaning an item worth $500 or less was allegedly taken. Police said Fontaine allegedly tried to take $104.98 worth of merchandise from a Sears store at a Milford mall.
