The food court at Westfield Trumbull Shopping Mall will partially reopen Wednesday, said Lee Sterling, Westfield Regional Director of Marketing.
The area has been closed since Saturday, July 17, after a 40 to 50 foot section of the facade above Sbarro’s pizza collapsed, injuring two people. The mall is undergoing a multi-million renovation, which includes construction work taking place in the areas about the food court.
Sterling said the food court common area will reopen to the public on Wednesday. Eateries within the food court will reopen upon approval from the town of Trumbull. Some of the court’s nine eateries were planning to move into the mall’s new dining terrace, and may decided to keep their current locations closed until the terrace’s opening, slated for fall.
Those who opt to re-open in the existing food court will be permitted to do so once given clearance by the Town of Trumbull building and health inspectors. The food court has been closed while independent certified structural engineers, working in tandem with Westfield and the Town of Trumbull Building officials, reinspect all store front facades.
