Six-month-old cat recovering from lung surgery

Penelope, a 6-month-old Persian cat, is recovering at home after having part of her lung removed this week.

The cat is drowsy and in pain, but on the path to recovery, according to Joanne Galante, vice president of Stratford Cat Project, a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to the rescue of homeless and abandoned cats.

Penelope came under the care of the cat rescue group after suffering an unknown injury at the home of her breeder. She had infected lungs and was having trouble breathing. So earlier this week 20 percent of one of her lungs was removed.

Her right eye was also infected and had to be removed earlier this month.

Here is a contributed photo taken of Penelope upon her homecoming from the animal hospital Wednesday night.

It is awful that people neglect to take good care of its pets and allow it to get this far. But its grate that Penelope has recovered.
