Stratford to host free breakfast for veterans

|

Press release:

Mayor John A. Harkins, in conjunction with Stratford Senior Services, will honor local veterans with a free breakfast and program at 9 a.m., Thursday, May 31st, at the Raymond Baldwin Community Center, 1000 West Broad Street.

“Awhile ago, a gentleman suggested that we honor our hometown veterans who have recently returned from Iraq and Afghanistan with a free breakfast like this,” Mayor Harkins said. “We’ve expanded this great idea to include ALL veterans in addition to the most recent returnees.”

Mayor Harkins is asking the public’s help in locating local veterans who have recently returned from deployment.  He asks that their friends and family – or the veterans themselves – forward their contact information to either Diane Puterski, Director of Senior Services, at (203) 385-4055, or to Lisa Bull DiLullo, Constituent Services and Outreach Coordinator, at (203) 385-4001. All recently returned veterans whose contact information is known will receive special invitations to the event, and veterans from other conflicts also will be invited.

The event will open with a solemn color guard presentation, followed by breakfast served by Mayor Harkins and other staff members.  A guest speaker and musical selections will round out the event.  Breakfast is FREE for every military veteran, regardless of whether the service was rendered in war or peacetime. The suggested donation for guests and non-veterans is $5.

Residents are asked to sign up for the special Veterans’ Breakfast by May 25, 2012 by calling Ms. Puterski or Ms. DiLullo, or by e-mailing ldilullo@townofstratford.com.
