Knowlton Street park’s official opening, final Bazaar session, today

Bridgeport’s Knowlton Street area will percolate Saturday, June 9, with the final session of the Bridgeport Bazaar and General Market and the official opening of a new city park.

Mayor Bill Finch is expected to cut the ribbon at 1 p.m. at the Knowlton Street Park, followed immediately by a free public reception at Gallery 305K (305 Knowlton St).

The BBGM — an indoor market at the gallery featuring one-of-a-kind local goods, crafts, art, retro clothes, furnishings, food and music hula — will run from noon to 5 p.m.

Admission is free. This will be the last BBGM at the gallery until it picks up again in September.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) today announced that admission to twelve state park museums and historic sites will be free on Saturday as part of the 8th Annual Connecticut Open House Day.

CT DEEP Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said, “Free admission to state park museums and historic sites will enable everyone to enjoy Connecticut’s state parks this upcoming Saturday. Visiting these special places will form memories your families and friends will never forget.”

Ansonia man facing prison time for unlawful firearm possession

 NEW HAVEN — Derrick Fogle, 32, of Ansonia, pleaded guilty Thursday before U.S. District Judge Ellen Bree Burns to one count of  unlawful possession of a firerm by a convicted felon, according to David B. Fein, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on Dec. 21, 2010, Fogle possessed a Ruger P-89 nine millimeter handgun that was reported stolen. The firearm had an extended clip loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.
Fogle has nine prior felony convictions, according to information provided by Fein.
It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
Burns has scheduled sentencing for Aug. 30 at which time Fogle faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
This case is being investigated by the Ansonia Police Department, the Shelton Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc H. Silverman.

Trumbull hosts breakfast for businesses

The Trumbull Economic and Community Development Commission are hosting its Annual Business Appreciation Breakfast Tuesday, June 19 at the Trumbull Marriott, 180 Hawley Lane.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the breakfast will start at 8 a.m.

Milford Chamber announces scholarship winners

The Milford Chamber of Commerce scholarship winners

The Milford Chamber of Commerce scholarship winners were recognized at the Costa-Azzurra Restaurant last week prior to Mayor Benjamin Blake’s “State of the City” speech.

Last week, the Milford Chamber of Commerce presented its annual award scholarships to 27 students from the Milford area. The $23,000 in scholarships awarded were funded through the Milford Chamber of Commerce Trust Fund, which raises money for these annual scholarships through its BIC Golf Classic event.

This year’s annual golf tournament will take place on July 16 at Mill River Country Club in Stratford. For information about the tournament, call the chamber at 203-878-0681.
