Jewish Family Service in Bridgeport on Wednesday distributed kosher Thanksgiving food baskets to local individuals who lost their perishable food during Hurricane Sandy.

The baskets were purchased with donations made to the agency from Congregations B’nai Torah in Trumbull and Or Shalom in Orange. The baskets were distributed by Jewish Family Service staff and volunteers.

Jewish Family Service, as part of its mission for the last 90 years, has run a program to assist community members during the holidays. In addition to the kosher baskets for Thanksgiving, the agency distributes toys to children for Hanukah and Christmas, as well as Matzah and other related food for Passover. Jewish Family Service heavily relies on volunteers to deliver food baskets as well as to provide rides for seniors to get to medical appointments, to visit isolated seniors in their own homes, to act as big buddies to children and serve on the Board of Directors.

To find out more about agency services or to make a donation, visit www.jfsct.org or call the agency at 203 366-5438. The agency is located at 2370 Park Ave, Bridgeport. Jewish Family Service serves all members of the local community regardless of religious affiliation.
