State Rep. Jack Hennessy, D-Bridgeport, has introduced a bill in the legislature that would directly impact folks on his city’s council.
If such restrictions were currently in place Council President Tom McCarthy and members Michelle Lyons, Warren Blunt, Richard Bonney, Richard Paoletto and James Holloway would be out. That’s six out of 20.
Proponents will say it is a conflict for city workers to vote on matters involving their own jobs.
Critics will counter it is hard enough finding qualified people to run for office and those who work for the city can use that experience to help govern it.
If I sat on the council, I’d make sure the city’s new crack lobbying team was all over this bill.
It will be interesting to see where the rest of the city’s delegation falls on this proposal.
