Over the weekend, among the Great Street parade and other Barnum Festival activities, we caught up with “Officer Down,” a film shot primarily in Bridgeport with actor/star James Woods.
What fun! In this 2012 movie about police corruption, just about every locale is identifiable: St. Patrick’s Church on North Avenue, the iconic harbor smokestack and McLevy Green, among them. And let’s not forget the magnificent stairs by the Downtown Cabaret Theatre leading from center city to Golden Hill Street and City Hall. The manner in which these stairs were filmed made them look like they came from Paris’ Montmartre. (Well almost!)
(In our living room, it soon became a competition to be the first to shout out each location.)
Several scenes also were shot in Milford and Stratford, according to the film’s credits. And as for the plot, we found this gritty murder/corruption tale to be engaging. All in all, a great way to spend an evening.
For those with Starz on Demand, the movie is free.
