BRIDGEPORT — City police responded to a reported gunshot victim near Beardsley Park late Tuesday.

The female victim reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to one of her legs and had been hit in the head with a blunt object, according to police radio dispatches.

Early reports indicated that the incident may have started as an attempted car jacking or robbery. It was not clear exactly where the shooting took place.

Officers met the victim at East Main Street and Beverly Place at about 10:40 p.m. and learned that two men had fled the scene, according to dispatches. An older man dressed in a yellow shirt reportedly fired the shot then fled on East Main Street toward Trumbull.

Officers were searching Beardsley Park for a younger man dressed in a white shirt who was also involved while state and Trumbull police were notified of the incident as well.
