East Main Street, between I-95 at Ann Street and Stratford Avenue will be closed to traffic for about 12 days beginning today.
Motorists should use Kossuth Street and Waterview Avenue to access points north of the closure including the I-95 southbound ramp, said Elaine Ficarra, spokeswoman for Mayor Bill Finch..
The Steelpoint Infrastructure Improvements Project consists of the installation of new underground utilities, including electrical, water, gas, telecommunications, sanitary and storm sewers as well as widening of the roadways in order to support future development.
The detour is expected to run through Friday, Sept. 27. Motorists can expect a full, around-the-clock closure during that period. Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Drivers are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity, Ficarra wrote in a press release.
