A man has been rescued from the Pequonnock River near Water Street in Bridgeport.

Police spokesman Bill Kaempffer said the man was alive when he was pulled from the water. He said the man was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.

Kaempffer said a person had called MTA police Saturday morning to report that a man was floating in the river north of the Stratford Avenue bridge. MTA police contacted Bridgeport authorities, who found the man floating face up just south of the bridge.

Rescuers initially did not see any signs of life from the man, but once he was on a fire boat, they determined that he was alive. He was reportedly breathing.

Kaempffer said the water temperature was about 60 degrees when the man was rescued.

Updates will be posted here as they are available.
