Bridgeport’s 11th homicide of the year

|

Bridgeport — Police are investigating a fatal shooting Sunday morning which happened around 3 a.m. on North Avenue. It is the city’s 11th homicide of the year.

The victim suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head, said police spokesman William Kaempffer. The victim was found near the entrance to Mainport Fish and Chips, 1010 North Avenue. He was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police say it appears the victim had been involved in an altercation with several other individuals prior to the shooting.  Although police have a tentative identification of the victim they are awaiting an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the victim’s identity.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Robert Winkler or Dennis Martinez in the Bridgeport Police Department Detective Division.
