Area communities honored for clean energy efforts

Sen. Richard Blumenthal is expected at a State Capitol ceremony this morning to honor 35 cities and towns for their energy efficiency efforts and to award each community a “Bright Ideas Grant.”

The grants, which range from $5,000 to $15,000 are being awarded by the Clean Energy Communities program, an Energize CT initiative, and may be used for a community-selected energy-saving project.

Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Milford, Newtown, Stratford, Trumbull and Westport are among the grant recipients.

State legislators representing those towns and officials of both of the state’s electric utilities are also expected to attend the program.
