Police investigating Bridgeport shooting

Bridgeport police are investigating a shooting that happened late Tuesday night in the northern part of the city.

A 33-year-old man was found with an apparent gunshot wound to the head and was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where he is  in critical but stable condition at this hour.

The shooting occurred inside 585 Pond Street, and police spokesman William Kaempffer said that the incident is being investigated as a possible robbery.

The site on Pond Street is between Saunders and Woodrow avenues.

DoingItLocal.com reports (http://goo.gl/wGZZtQ) that police officers heard shots fired near Pond Street around midnight and then got into a foot chase with two men. Those suspects were reportedly still at large early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after the foot pursuit, police received a call about a man shot in the head on Pond Street.

Neither the identity nor the condition of the victim was immediately available early Wednesday morning.

The area was reportedly still an active crime scene in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Drivers should avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles to pass.
