Police shoot suspect in Ansonia chase

UPDATE: According to the Associated Press, police say the 33-year-old suspect tried to hit the officer with his car when he was shot. The unidentified suspect was reportedly fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Ansonia Saturday night when he was stopped by Officer Joe Jackson, who shot the suspect when he tried to strike Jackson with his car, police said. The suspect is in stable condition at Yale New Haven Hospital, the AP reports.

The Valley Independent Sentinel reports (http://goo.gl/svXDOj) the suspect was in surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital late Saturday afternoon.

Police reportedly chased the suspect into Derby. The suspect reportedly made it to the area of East Ninth and Hawkins streets.

State police were investigating the incident late Saturday and several streets in the area remained blocked.

  1. I’m Glad the officer wasn’t hurt. these officers put their lives in danger everyday and to have some scumbag try to run him over, got what he deserved!
