Bridgeport felon caught with gun

BRIDGEPORT-A city man caught hiding in a trash can on Hallet Street following a police chase has been indicted by a federal grand jury for being a felon in possession of a handgun.
Giovanni Candelario, 21, who has a prior drug trafficking conviction, exited a car on Ogden Street and fled on foot before being captured on Feb. 1. Police retraced his steps and found a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber pistol on an Ogden Street driveway. The gun had been reported stolen.
Candelario pleaded not guilty to the charge during proceedings before U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna Martinez.
He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
