Market damaged in early morning smash and grab

|

HamdenAuthorities in Hamden are investigating a burglary at the Country Food Market on State Street in which a man reportedly caused hundreds of dollars in damage to the store before fleeing.

Police Capt. Ronald Smith said Thursday that officers responded to an alarm at the store around 1 a.m. Wednesday and found two shattered glass doors when they arrived. The damage was estimated at $500.

The man who allegedly broke into the store took several boxes of cigarettes before leaving, Smith said. The man was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt and fled toward London Drive in light-colored, older model pick-up truck.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Hamden Police Department Detective Division at (203) 230-4040.
