A woman has been charged in Hamden after her fully loaded, unsecured handgun was stolen from her home while her two children were in the house.
Capt. Ronald Smith said 36-year-old Darlene Brown reported her 9mm handgun stolen from her home on Grandview Avenue on Jan. 13. Brown told police that she had left the gun under clothes in a closet before the theft.
Police said that the gun did not have a locking mechanism attached and that they learned that Brown’s 16 year-old daughter and 2 year-old son were home when the theft occurred.
Police applied for a warrant to arrest Brown. She turned herself in Thursday and was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment.
Brown was released on a promise to appear in court on March 13.
