Bad haircut leads to barbershop brawl

A disagreement over a bad haircut ended with criminal charges for a man and a city barber in Bridgeport earlier this week.

BridgeportPolice say they were called to the barber shop in the 1000 block of Broad Street shortly after 3 p.m. Friday. There they reportedly found 24-year-old Rami Nouri bleeding from the back of the head after a dispute with barber Victor Laboy, 30.

Nouri said that he had become upset with the way Laboy was cutting his hair and started a verbal argument with him. He told police the situation escalated and that he grabbed Nouri’s shirt collar. But he said that he eventually let Nouri go and then Nouri hit him in the head with a metal object.

Laboy told police that he had offered to have another barber cut Nouri’s hair after he became upset, but then he said Nouri grabbed him by neck, choking him. Police said they couldn’t see any visible marks on Laboy’s neck when they got there.

Laboy said he grabbed Nouri’s arm to break his grasp and then when Nouri let him go, he said he was afraid, so allegedly said he hit Nouri in the head with the headrest taken off of a barber chair.

Nouri was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for treatment of his injury and was issued a summons for second-degree breach of the peace. Laboy was issued a summons for second-degree breach of the peace and third-degree assault.

This isn’t the first time a bad haircut in Bridgeport has ended in charges. In late January, five men were arrested after a fight over a haircut ended with gunshots being fired.
