Bridgeport Police say they arrested 24-year-old George Padilla, of Bridgeport on numerous counts including criminal attempt of murder in connection with Thursday’s shooting.
Padilla was caught while detectives were interviewing his girlfriend, and he knocked on the door. Police opened the door and apprehended him after a brief struggle.
While the incident remains under investigation police believe the shooting stemmed from an incident Wednesday night involving two groups.
“This was a brazen shooting that happened in broad daylight,” said Capt. James Viadero in a statement. “Through cooperation from the community and great detective work, we were able to apprehend the suspect quickly.”

Bridgeport Detectives have arrested a man in connection to a shooting that occurred earlier today. A handgun was also recovered.
Updated as of 5:30 p.m.:
The man shot earlier today has been identified as 29-year-old William Merrero, according to Bridgeport Police. Merrero remains in critical but stable condition at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
An arrest has not been made at the time but police are following strong leads, according to a recent release.
The victim was shot in the head and chest.
Detectives are being told by medical staff that he is expected to survive.
The shooting in the residential neighborhood, happened shortly after 11:30 AM.
The victim, believed to be a man in his late 20s or early 30s, was rushed to St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Although police have a tentative ID, they are not yet releasing his name.
Police were searching for two men in connection with the shooting. One was driving a white SUV and was seen speeding away down Beechwood, south toward Iranistan Avenue. Police are also seeking a man who fled the scene on foot.
The investigation remains in its early stages.
