Cops: disabled student sexually assaulted in bathroom

BRIDGEPORT – A mentally disabled student was sexually assaulted in a bathroom at Harding High School while half a dozen other students cheered the assailant on, police said.

One of the spectator students recorded the incident on his camera phone and showed it around school.

Patrick Nolan, 19, of Huntington Turnpike, was charged Wednesday with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and third-degree abuse.

The state Department of Children and Families were investigating where school employees were at the time of the alleged assault.

On Aug. 31, 2013, police were dispatched to Bridgeport Hospital. When they got there they met with the victim’s mother who complained that her 16-year-old mentally disabled son had been sexually assaulted in a cafeteria bathroom at Harding the previous day, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. The victim told police he notified his two teachers after the assault but the teachers told police they didn’t learn about the assault until they got a text message about it from the mother the next day. One of the teachers said she then contacted DCF.

Police said they reviewed a video of the hallway outside the bathroom and saw the victim enter the bathroom along with Nolan and five other students. They said the video shows another students standing outside the bathroom apparently acting as a lookout.

A short time later police said the video shows the students standing outside the bathroom huddled over a cell phone as if watching a video.

The affidavit states that another student later told them that he had been to the home of another student when that student showed him a video he had made in the bathroom of one student sexually assaulting the disabled student.
