An 11,000-square-foot mansion in Middlebury that was completely engulfed in flames Thursday evening is owned by a businessman who owns the Seymour based Basements Systems.

The mansion, where the three alarm fire was reported just before 4:30 p.m. at 725 Break Neck Hill Road in Middlebury, is owned by Lawrence and Wendy Janesky, according to property records. Larry Janesky is the owner of Basement Systems, a multi-million dollar company based in Seymour.

Janesky and his company were profiled in a 2011 Connecticut Post article.

A photo of the mansion by a person identifying himself as a Connecticut volunteer firefighter on Twitter shows the complete middle portion of the mansion destroyed by flames.

Numerous nearby fire departments were called to the scene such as Fairfield, Ridgefield and Bethel, according to those departments’ social media accounts.

The mansion was bought for more than $5 million in 2007 by Janesky and was recently appraised at almost $3 million, according to property records. The house has five bedrooms, six bathrooms and 16 rooms combined.
