Car strikes pumps at Shelton gas station (w/video)

SHELTON — A woman had to be cut out of her car after the vehicle rolled over and struck gas pumps at Mont’s Mart on Leavenworth Road on Wednesday night.

Susan Linnane, 41, of Derby had been driving her Mazda south on Levenworth Road at 8:45 p.m., when she struck another vehicle, said Lt. Robert Kozlowsky, the police department spokesman.

The Mazda then struck a guardrail and went down an embankment, striking a gas pump at the convenience store.

Linnane, who was alone in the vehicle, was conscious and alert at the scene, Kozlowsky said. She was brought to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport with non-life-threatening injuries, fire department spokesman Nick Verdicchio said.

The gas station employees are credited with preventing a serious situation by quickly shutting off the pumps from inside the store.

“There was no fire, but because of the potential we had a three company response,” Verdicchio said Thursday morning. The Echo Hose, White Hills and Huntington fire companies responded to the scene.
