Man found asleep at intersection arrested in Milford

MILFORD — The corner of New Haven Avenue and Gulf Street is one of the busiest intersections in town, so when an officer found two men asleep in a car there Monday afternoon, he knew something was wrong.

The vehicle was stopped in the westbound left turn lane, on New Haven Avenue, and other vehicles were going around it,” said Officer Jeff Nielsen, the police department spokesman.

Ralph Williams, 52, of Platt Street in Milford, was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to obey a traffic control signal, operating a motor vehicle without a license, possession of drug paraphrenalia and interfering with police.

Williams pushed an officer during his arrest, Nielsen said.

The suspect was held on a $500 bond and was to be arraigned on Tuesday in Milford Superior Court.

The passenger in Williams’ vehicle, who was also unresponsive, was transported to Milford Hospital for a medical evaluation, police said.
