The body was found near the dam near Sentinel Hill Road, police said. The body was recovered by members of the Shelton Police Department’s dive team.

Derby Police Lt. Justin Stanko said the man’s family called police early Friday morning because the man had not returned home from fishing at the small lake Monday evening.

No ID of the man has been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The park is a popular fishing place in Derby and the site of an annual fishing rodeo. There are two lakes on the property that borders the city of Ansonia.

The park was formerly a reservoir that the city purchased from Birmingham Utilities and dedicated in memory of PFC Frank Witek. Witek was a U.S. Marine killed in a battle in Guam during World War II.  Witek, a Medal of Honor recipient, was 23 years old when he was killed.
