Scooter driver hurt in crash Wednesday night



The driver of a scooter is in the hospital Wednesday night after colliding with a Jeep at Barnum and East Main Street, according to police at the scene.

The driver of the scooter was taken to Bridgeport Hospital by ambulance with head injuries, which did not appear to be life threatening, according to police.

The scooter was hit as it was going northbound up East Main Street and struck by a Jeep turning on Barnum Avenue. The driver of the scooter was not wearing a helmet, according to police.

The driver of the Jeep did not flee and stood on scene. Police said it appeared the scooter had the right of way but an investigation is ongoing.

At the scene peices of the yellow scooter were strewn across the intersection and a pair of sneakers were placed on the destroyed vehicle.

    I said this a year ago and again now but these scooters need to be registered and insured. If they are going to ride with the traffic and in traffic they should be registered. Many more accidents will happen before something is done unfortunately.
