Seymour teen involved in scooter crash dies from injuries

Seymour – A teen, who was involved in a scooter accident Wednesday night, died from his injuries Thursday, according to police.

The accident occurred on Wednesday evening at 5:45 p.m. when a scooter operated by 19-year-old Philip Divincenzo Jr was involved in a crash, according to a press release.

Divincenzo, of Balance Rock Road, was traveling South on Bungay Road. As he tried to make a turn on a slight curve, in the roadway by 144 Bungay Road, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole located off the right side of the roadway.

Upon impact with the pole Divincenzo Jr. suffered serious physical injuries which were considered to be life threatening. He was treated at the scene by Seymour Ambulance personnel and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was listed in critical condition following the accident.

Speed is a possible factor in the accident, according to police. Divincenzo was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. However, the helmet became dislodged from Divincenzo Jr’s. person upon impact with the Utility pole.

Accident remains under investigation.

Divincenzo passed away from injuries he sustained in the accident late Thursday afternoon.
