I am very disappointed in the comments made by Ken Flatto. At a time when most people are helping neighbors clean up, UI teams are working around the clock and police and fire departments are tirelessly patrolling their towns, the man is bashing UI for not being prepared. I haven’t seen one AT&T truck out replacing the poles to hang the power lines on. I have lived in Fairfield County 22 years and I have never seen such a severe storm with the one, two punch combination of rain and high, sustained winds. I lost a very large limb in my yard along with telephone wires and they will stay that way for awhile because in the scheme of things there are people with greater issues to address. Why does this have to be the “fault” of UI? We could, also, say that people who live here know that NorEasters blow through and they should have had back-up generators. It is unproductive to point fingers after the fact. Roll up your sleeves Mr. Flatto and go help your neighbors by offering a hot meal and place to stay until this is over!!

Every time another channel goes off the air because they want more money, Cablevision cries to its viewers and says please call these channels, and tell them to come back. Then they turn to us, and tell us these channels are thieves for wanting to raise their rates. The problem is is that Cablevisions rates are already so high, absorbing any price hikes from the channels they air,cutss int their profits and just kills them. They know they are right on the borderline, that if they charge any more , they’ll lose a large number of customers. They know they walk a fine line. If any other channel would provide local news like channel twelve, Cablevision would shudder in fear. Still they’re dirty thieves.

CableVision is rediculous!!! CableVision overrides the channel and ask viewers to watch its complaint about ABC when you turn one your TV NO MATTER IF YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. MONOPOLY!! MONOPOLY!! I wish I could have FIOS as soon as possible. CableVision is losing my business as soon as ALL channels from ABC FAMILY are off the cable. CableVision has NO VALUE for me. I have been fed up long time ago. CableVision had used many ’sneaky’ ways to make profits – moved your due day to the earlierst. FCC asked me to watch CableVision see if CableVision dares to move one day forward then CableVision violates the rules. Can you image how much money (interest) CableVision can make by moving due day one day ahead from so many customers? CableVision also charges hidden fees if you pay bills online by a new credit card number WITHOUT TELLING YOU. CableVision claims that the fees will be returned EVENTUALLY as soon as the payment goes through. That means if your payment fails CableVision takes the money (fees). It’s like stealing money from your pocket silently and put it back LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. CableVision had proved it’s not doing business sincerely. Don’t mention the rates had been going higher and higher for years….WHERE DID THE MONEY GO????? CableVision only knows how to blame the other party. Anyone can see whose fault it is but only CableVision is BLIND!!!

ABC (not sure if it is WABC or the network) is requesting that Cablevision pay them $40 million to carry their station. If you agree with this be prepared for your bill to go up. Explain to me why shows that are broadcast over the air and on the internet for free should be paid for by Cablevision and it’s customers. If ABC wants Cablevision to pay for free broadcasts they should remove adverstising from their shows.

ABC claims that their request for the $40 million is justified because Cablevision is charging basic customers for service. Well guess what ABC… Cablevision invested a lot of money to bring cable service to my house so that I had good dependable service so I could recieve your advertiser paid for programs. You did not pay for that infrastructure. Get your money grubbing hands off of Cablevison’s return on investment.

For all you Cablevison cutomers that are tired of this bull**** I suggest you support Cablevision. If you don’t your rates will go up. Check out the options… Satelite TV charges extra for local service. Phone company TV… good luck with that.

Ok ummm…considering what we went thru with Cablevision and the Food Network just recently, I’m not really on Cablevision’s side this time. One thing that has not been clarified is whether or not this is a fight specific with WABC or with the whole ABC network (it seems to say both!) Ya, the guy who had a “smooth” experience must be exceptional, because there is no 24/7 call center # posted on the site!

This upgrade is MISERABLE. Payees have been dropped, multiple accounts not accessible. Finally found the customer service call center # after an internet search, and a then phone referral. The # is 888-426-7419, but have now been sitting on line for over an hour listening to a recording.

Clearly Peoples is having MAJOR PROBLEMS. Shame on them for not better vetting of this system before releasing.

Is this the best time for a strike at a store that is competing for business? Are the profits of a business more important than the employees trying to earn a living? Are both sides are facing a test of wills that could lead to their destruction? Businesses come and go and so do employees. There are a lot of people who will find jobs at the stores being struck by the unions and there are several retail companies opening new outlets providing competition.
Could this be a lose / lose situation for both if there is a strike? Could this be a win / win situation by employing the art of compromise? Time will tell.

I logged onto my personal account for the first time since the update the other day. Couldn’t have gone smoother. Did the same with my business account today and had a question, so I called their 24/7 call center that was set up to handle calls like this. They immediately helped me out and all is well now. I appreciate the additional layer of security they have built into the new system. I’m a happy People’s customer.

The new automated systems stinks too. Now you have to enter every account number in order to get the info or make transfer, etc. Do they think about elderly people and how hard this is going to be for them? I’m sure this upgrade is for the benefit of the bank because it certainly isn’t for the benefit of the customers because we have to do all this extra work just to get to OUR accounts. RIDICULOUS. With all the money these banks make from US, they should be making their systems EASIER for the customer, NOT HARDER AND MORE FRUSTRATING. I rate this new system an “F”

It is not ignorance if someone is fired because of a medical condition. If someone cannot perform the duties required because of a medical condition, they should not be in that position. He is just costing the town more money.

Hola and Hello,
As a Latina in this community, I have been trying to give young women postitive thoughts and suggestions on how to help themselves as well those in need. A few years ago I decided to join the commitee for the Puerto Rican day parade of CT. Long story shorten by a bit; I got to know what the Puerto Rican Pageant system was about… I got really involved and was disgusted by what I saw. These young women put there talent and dreams on the line to be admired for the pride they have in their culture and these pageants have lost there integrity. It appeared to me as just a money game. The entry fee is close to $500 and far more than that after they prepare themselves for the pageant night. I think a good story for this pageant community would be one on how we can get the meaning of these pageants back. If you research back a few years- you will notice 1 of New Haven’s queens was a daughter of the President’s (of the commitee) school security guard, and 2 are actually daughters of a fellow commitee member. At the state level, it seems rules should be adjusted as well. Im not stating that these girl’s do not deserve their titles, but that restrictions should apply on who can participate. At the end of the day how many young women put their hard earned money into something that ends up being immorally impossible? Great photo. I just had a beautiful bobcat cross my woods and lawn in Harvard, MA this AM (2/10)and went looking for a photo to confirm that what I saw was a bobcat. This has to be the same one – or may-be a close cousin . We’ve had foxes, coyotes, fishers, but this is the first bobcat we have seen in 24 years. Thanks for the posting.

What is the status of another famous Miron hire Justin Loschiavo?
You had written articles that it was recommended he not be hire and then there was his accident in June 2009.
I understand he has not been in a police car since then, yet he is still receiving full pay and his driver’s license has been reinstated by Ct DMV.
Why is he not back working his patrol duties? Is there any issue with this porthole to porthole driving coverage that could affect the town of Stratford should he have an accident in his private vehicle commuting to and from work.
Miron always seemed to throw up smokescreens when this hiring was questioned. I wish you would investigate it and report on it.

The kids would have been home and in bed if Anderson was driving at the posted speed limit.
It seems like Milford makes the news paper every day. It’s one tragity after another. The chief said there were 111 cops on the Milford police force. Now it’s the chief job to control his men/woman and he failed. With all the publicity Milford is getting, it must be like the old west. I would recommend first to take away all the cops weapons if Anderson was a good cop or even an averags cop. Remember Anderson could have shot someone to death and it’s his word against the dead person. If Pisoni was there do you think he would rat Anderson out?
I just hope the jury thinks about loosing a loved one or in this case two. Anderson is home playing with his kids while the parents of the dead kids only have a picture and a cemetery stone to look at for eternity.

Teens and “civil” society in general ALL need to be more courteous and polite towards other human beings. Respect for elders, regardless of their position in life is also non-existent. So, yes, I feel it it ok for malls to ‘dis’ teens, until respect is shown. And as far as money coming from the teens own pockets…. I own a few teenagers and know that the money in their pocket originates in mine.

Drop all of Cablevision and get an xbox 360 or playstation3, hook up to Netflix and voila – movies, immediately available, plus your own queue of movies mailed to your house! Want news – go online. Other than that, Cablevision controls it all, as do the other ‘cable providers’. Funny how i can get a multitude of options for other services, but not cable. It is a monopoly, there is only one ‘cable’ company per area, they do not overlap and they control what programs you get, no matter how much you pay. I’m done with cablevision, they don’t care about their subscribers, and even less about us in Connecticut.

My guess is hunting originated centuries ago when man needed to hunt for food and clothing in order to survive. Now that we are all civilized..? and have the mall and grocery stores, we no longer need to hunt, right?
I guess if hunting is now considered a sport, then it must be fun to kill living things? Hmm?
Maybe we could replace our scope with a zoom camera and just photograph Bambi? Or better yet pop her with a tranquilizer gun so it gives Billy-Bob and Floyd time to run up and get their picture taken.

After 20 years of paying this blood sucking company I finally broke from them and went to Direct TV and will never look back no matter what they offer. I used to work for them back in the 80’s when your channel selection was many and the price was very reasonable. I am not a big movie fan but I still get over 200 channels and it’s at a very affordable price. They will give you all of these horror stories about losing your picture when it rains or snows. Some times it does happen in the heavy rain but it doesn’t last long and so long as you have a strong signal from the satellite you will never have a major problem. Plus, the bonus is the pictures are coming right off you roof just like when you used a antenna. The signal doesn’t have to run through miles of cables and hundreds of amplifiers to get to you.
The only thing you have to do is overcome your fears of changing and get use to a whole new experience.

I was on the phone yesterday with Cablevision and I was on hold for over forty minutes and when I spoke to a representative, he basically said , well that’s tough. I told him I was going to move my cable service and he was smug, basically saying, do what you have to do. I asked for a refund because I was not getting the service that I had signed up for and again no response, he didn’t care. I can’t go to a competing service, because the only other other service available to me in a dish and it doesn’t work as good as a hard wire.

If can you should switch, I was a t a friends house for New Year’s Eve and saw thew AT and T U-verse, the quality was great.

It’s good to be a monopoly.

Has anybody considered writing the attorney general to refund their customers for lack of service and their legislators to bring back regulating the communications industry. We pay for cable in advance and yet our services are taken away at the drop of a hat with no compensatory rate reductions. It’s not just Cablevision – although I am ready to switch away from them again. They all pull it because they can.

My goodness wake up everybody! It’s not just the cable companies. Don’t get me wrong I’m not endeared to them at all! However these channels that we hold so dear now have britches just as big. They have the public hostage. As for switching services, all well and good to start with, it will change eventually.Besides AT&T is not available in this whole area yet. Down the line they’re subject to change as well, as the channels and the providers get bolder and bolder. Where will it stop? At this point it looks like nowhere…. P.S. I was extremely angry at the loss of these 2 channels. Especially with the rates we are paying to cablevision and the fact that the other cable companies and Dish networks are still receiving the 2 channels. We only have cablevisions word on what happened but the fact that we are loosing yet 2 more channels and the rates are sky high make me seriously considering changing to AT&T. The only thing we would loose is channel 12 news!

What everyone has failed to mention is that Scripps wanted to jack the rate up by like 600%. Cablevision put their foot down and refused to be pretty much extorted. What happens when CNN wants to jack up their rates? Should cable bow to them too? And then every other channel jacks up their rates… People complain about how much Cable costs, and it is expensive, but when they finally take a stand and try to stop costs from ballooning out of control, people have a problem with that too.

Goodbye Cable, Hello At&T. I have had it. Cable cut off so many stations on Family cable and I was told to swith to IO if I wanted them. I only get 1/2 of what I was gettting, but the price stayed the same. If I lose Food network and HGTV, then Cable is gonna lose my dollars from My TV, Computer and phone lines. I have had it with them. I am going to encourage all my family members and friends to switch also.

I was on the phone this afternoon with a representative from the Scripps Network (special toll free 866 number can be found on ilovefoodnetwork.com) to voice my complaint and it was all about the negotiations/money, I was told. They seem to be on OUR side…..then I called Cablevision and spoke to a representative there….I was sweet but VERY firm about how I felt, and that I was very angry/upset that there was NO warning (of course the rep said to me that they were “surprised”) about this happening! I further explained that from viewing posts on networks such as Twitter, Facebook, etc., there are a LOT of folks threatening to switch providers if the situation is not remedied. I even mentioned that already, we were paying more for LESS programming on top of this latest development. The Cablevision rep was nice, but toward the end of the call he seemed to be rushing me off the phone…sheesh! The Scripps rep whom I spoke with was very nice also, but did not rush me off the line.

I also found out via Scripps that Charter Communications is also in negotiations w/ Scripps as well, but Charter was good enough to keep Food Network on their cable…..so Charter customers if you’re reading this, please pay attention as well!

Before the switch over to digital, Comcast removed about 5 channels that I was still paying for with no notice whatsoever. It was only August when they started dropping them and the change over was not until February. So watch closely at what you are paying for. They will rip you off.

Cablvision is no longer the “only game in town” and they are starting to feel the pinch. There are a number of entertainment options available, the internet being one of them. I do not have any children, at least not yet, so I cancelled my TV 4 years ago. I do not miss it at all. The internet is “filled” with a variety of entertainment options and you can pick and choose and control what you want to view. Commercials are limited, very short, or none at all. I also find I do a lot more reading which I very rarely did in the past.

Quick teeny tiny blurb on news 12 I believe and that was it. our bills will surly be the same tho I can bet the farm on that. Just like the “Tripple Play” boasting a 29.95 a month to lure you in and O.k it is nice but the rewards plan that they offer to you after you do so is useless in CT anyhow. I awoke to the news this morning to find out that Food Network was dropped by Cablevision, and I am very angry about it! It is one of the few cable channels I watch regularly.

This past summer Cablevision pulled a number of channels such as AMC, A&E, Lifetime, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, etc. and the ONLY way to access them was to have the darned cablebox! At our house we have cable on both TVs, but there was NO way that my parents were going to pay for a second cablebox, so for example during the summer the only way I could watch “Mad Men” on AMC (one of the VERY few shows I watch regularly, love it!) was to watch it in the family room as that is where our cablebox is at 11pm, after my folks watched whatever at 10pm! That I could deal with.

However, when a well watched network such as the Food Network is dropped WITHOUT ANY WARNING, that is not good news! Regular Cablevision customers were NOT notified of this change, and a lot of the discussion on Twitter, Facebook, and other sites today has been focused on this matter. A lot of folks are threatening to switch providers at this time.

Even further, Cablevision charges more for LESS programming! Remember that, folks!

Unfortunately the Malls may be headed in the same direction as most banks and some grocery stores.The bank I go to has an armed guard on site. The grocery store I go to but, “try to avoid” will often have a police officer there.
The mall security is a nice jesture, but is inadequate to handle any real problems or make patrons feel safe. A few more incidents like this and the Mall may be have some real problems.
Sad but true, they may need to hire highly trained and armed individuals, who don’t smile a lot, who can control a bad situation.
The mall experience is not what it used to be, but then again, most things are not what they used to be.

I also agree that The Trumbull Mall should get their act together and ban Teens under 18 that are not accompanied with an adult, especially since it seems the security guards and the Trumbull police are overwhelmed. My safety comes first and I will not shop there, if us hardworking citizens are going to be harrased by ignorant teens. Its very easy to put the blame on Bridgeport, but its not Bridgeport’s fault. I live and work in Bridgeport in an industry thats sees a lot of these unruly teens on a daily basis and ingnorance is started in the home. So, put the blame in the proper place on the parents, who didn’t teach their kids to have any common sense, decency or respect for others. So, I say again Trumbull Mall get your act together, or you will see a severe drop in your customers which will most likely have you shutting your doors for good.

This mall has gone seriously downhill in the past few years. Not even putting a Trumbull police post at the mall deters all the riff-raff from congregating there and causing problems. If it’s not the mall it’s the movie theater. Whatever. I refuse to shop there again until they get their $hit together. It’s a blight for Trumbull and further adds to the stigma that Bridgeport is a horrible place to place, and I target Bridgeport because it’s likely that 90% of those kids are residents. I am a hard working, law-abiding citizen and I refuse to put mine and my child’s life at risk because I want to go shopping. Get a grip Trumbull mall, you suck.

If Security had ejected the teens to the bus stop, how were they overwhelmed? It would seem to me they did their job by ejecting the teens in the first place and is it not possible you were asked to leave the property because you might have been preventing them from doing their job by trying to conduct an interview during the incident?

You want an addition to your home? Forget about it. Zoning board will make you come back for appeal after appeal, only to deny you by default. It’s kind of like complaining about a cop. Even if the Police Commission finds the cop at fault, you know you’re going to get hassled, pulled over, searched, etc.

I cannot believe the unprofessionalism of the previous administration. These employees worked for the Town of Stratford, under Mayor Miron, and therefore, abused our tax dollars, not Mayor Miron’s private stash. I hope that all legal steps are taken to investigate what appears to be a clear misuse of our money. The former mayor has only reinforced our beliefs that he was unqualified for the position in the first place. Such childish, vindictive behavior does not belong here in America. The former mayor and his staff should be ashamed of themselves. I would be hard pressed to wish them luck in finding work in the private industry.

The whole situation in Stratford is sad. Why would any Mayor want to go out like a two year old little boy who didn’t get his way. Shameful. I read the Post article in full and saw that former CAO, Suzanne McCaully (sp?)justified her unprofessional departure by saying she worked for Mayor Miron, not Mayor Harkins. This is the problem….Hello, wake up…WRONG, you work for the PEOPLE of Stratford ONLY! The tax payers, the folks who paid your salary and who it appears you may have taken advantage of when you walked off the job. They say Only in Bridgeport, but I am beginning to think it is more like Only in Stratford. I think Mayor Harkins has a lot to clean up but will do an excellent job for the people. Shame, shame, shame on the outgoing administration.

Un-freaking-believable.

I don’t know where to begin. The arrogance and audacity by Miron is stupefying.

The idea that he can terminate those people right before he leaves office so they can get extra money is insulting to the taxpayers of this town. Its one thing to be laid off and get some type of severence. But this is so self-serving and so under-handed that I don’t know whether to be shocked or angry.

I can’t wait to see McCauley or Winterbottom get municipal jobs somewhere else. Didn’t these so called professionals think there was something wrong with this?

“Miron accomplished that, in part, by terminating the officials and allowing them to receive 60 days of additional pay plus their full 2010 vacation and sick pay — money they would not have received if they resigned, according to records released Tuesday by Harkins and his aides.”

Is this in their contracts? Is this in the charter? Regardless steps must be taken to make sure something like this never happens again.

And for that weasel Miron to call John Harkins a liar over this and the whole transition is maddening. John Harkins makes Miron look like an ambulance chasing low life…oh, wait.

FDNY is a fine organization. And I assume they have no room within their department for an individual who is so insecure that he needs to GREATLY inflate his (minor) role is an incident for his own ego gratification. A true hero does what’s necessary out of sense of duty. And because it is THE RIGHT THING TO DO. A true hero does not parade their story to every available media outlet. The highway was crowded when the woman crashed into the trooper’s car. There was probably at least one cell phone in every car. How many video cameras does that equal? And then there’s the DOT cameras. And then there’s the witnesses. What do you think CSP does? They INVESTIGATE. It is not too late to “set the record straight.” But at some point, it will be. To each member of FDNY is entrusted the honor of the department. How far will we let this go? Let’s see if the “hero” will step up. To the TRUE HERO – great job, troop. Speedy recovery.

I was sitting in the right lane just approaching and about to pass the original accident when I saw the VW flying down the inside lane, it seemed like she was going 70 mph and didn’t hit her brakes. It is the most horrific sight I have ever seen. I was so relieved that no one died with the impact of the VW, I thought for sure someone had by the reactions of the parties involved in the original accident. Anyone who was involved in any part of the rescue efforts, even if it was making one of the many 911 calls placed to report the second accident are recognized where it matters most. Good deeds whether recognized publicly or not do not go unnoticed in the bigger picture.

O.K. Hot tip of the day’ I’ve tried it, it sounds nuts, but it works!

If you know you are not going to be able to stop on the pavement then “drive off the road.” Try and get at least two tires onto the shoulder (dirt). That may stop you. Worst case, you might end up in someone’s front yard, but it is better than crashing.Of course you will need enough shoulder or open area to pull this off.

I travel that road everyday and it is scary anyday. People speed and pass and the slopes are plenty. I must say when there is ice it is hard to slow down on the hills. The car picks up speed and if you apply your brakes you will slide. I try to avoid that road in bad weather and take other roads to work. I saw Joanne’s husband pull that woman out of the car, he is an angel. It was the worst sight I have ever seen. Please thank your husband for his courage. As I passed the car, there were numerous men working on the car, they should all be applauded for their courage. It’s a shame they were not recognized for their swift rescue efforts. I wonder if that woman understands just how lucky she is.

I’ve lived in Shelton for 43 yrs.( I’m still here :[ ) That section of 110 from Monroe to downtown Shelton, even into the River road section has also been a speed place. There is a sign heading down the hill stating ” DO NOT COAST ” the speed your car/truck will gain is unsafe. Will anyone learn from this ? No. Live has become such a rush rush , gotta get there now . My wish for Christmas this year and for others to come…….SLOW DOWN. Live LIFE. DON’T LET LIFE LIVE YOU.
Stop and take a step back and relook your life. Too many people are dying for stupid reasons these days. Say prayers and be good to each other. As in a very good movie…. Pay it Forward.

This money does not magically appear from the castle at Disney world. It means that all of us throughout the state of CT have the privilege of paying the superintendent’s salary. This is outrageous, immoral, and unconscionable. The superintendent and the town should be ashamed. And the state should cut aid to the district in an amount equivalent to the local “savings” realized through this ruse.

I don’t agree. When people go through a red blinking light, it could mean death, regarless of who is coming from the other direction. The blame is not only on the police officer, both parties involved are to blame, period.

It was a horrific accident. However, as widely reported, a State Trooper did not pull the lady out of the car. I know this, because it was my husband who rescued that woman.Vincent Sottile of LAD167 FDNY….she would be dead if not for him. My husband is a firefighter with the FDNY. Two civilians were attempting to take her out but were pushed back by the flames..My husband with his turnout gear on, reached in the fire engulfed car and pulled her out-no trooper. We are awaiting a response from the Conn. State Troopers.

If it is the one I think it is, there was no SUV involved, just a regular state trooper car.
And 2 more cars. One of them was on fire, I passed right next to it. The smoke could be seen at least 2 miles away from it. I saw someone on the floor and some cops attending him.

My daughter and I were stuck in traffic and saw this horrifying accident.There is a state police SUV crashed and 2 cars incinerated .We simply prayed as we passed by.Some poor people left to go visiting or shopping and ended up in one of the worst accidents I have ever seen.

Of course this adds to the states unfunded pension liability for educators but who cares. She will draw it from the “state” and then the city will ask more from the “state” and then complain that the “state” is not living up to its bargain. When I was a child I have heard that Stratford with a vibrant town with Sikorsky, Raybestos, Avco, etc but that was 30 years ago. When I read about this and the police/fire all getting disability payouts, it seems like our “leaders” are like a drunk bank teller giving out lollypops. Government is the only growth in Stratford

Officer Anderson was at fault for driving 94 miles per hour without lights or sirens – period. Although I am sure his actions were not intentional, there are and should be consequences to killing two people. He deserves to fired from his job and he deserves to do jail time for man slaughter. Drinking or not, there was no reason for Office Anderson to be traveling so fast. He was not responding to a call and had no lights or sirens on! These poor kids had no chance and would not have had any reason to think that he was driving that fast because he did not have his lights on. They were good kids and would not have turned had they seen lights and heard sirens.

First of all, those priests who abused are HOMOSEXUALS. This newspaper for whatever reason is very careful to avoid that word in describing the nature of the men (priests)involved in the acts of abuse. Perhaps it is time to be more accurate in new reporting. The words “gay” and “lesbian” are put out there in news articles such as “gay” marriage.
The consensus of opinion of voters across the USA is solidly against the homosexual community to have legalized marriages. Too bad the activist judge in this State opened the bedroom door to the homosexuals and give them a cloak of respectability they do not deserve.

That’s what I like. Party affiliations ASIDE. Party affiliation is what keeps government from getting things done when it should be done. Case in point: if the US government starting working on health care reform 2 DECADES AGO like they should have– it would have beeen in place already and would have been improved over the years. 2 DECADES wasted. It will probably take another 2 decades to get an agreement on health care reform.

Hey everyone, this is a bit late, but I have been up to my eyeballs in shows and getting ready for the other holiday season! The reason the elephants were linked to the Big Read on Thrusday 10/29 was because we had this parade and dinner scheduled for Weds. 10/28/09 to preceed Mary Witkowski’s (Bridgeport City Historian and the Head of the Historical Collections, Bridgeport Public Library) presentation at Playhouse on the Green at 6:30 p.m. called “Mysteries of Bridgeport Past: Crime Stories That Will Chill Your Spineas.” The event was planned to be a pre-show dinner on State Street. Local acting talent helped Mary give accounts of historic 19th and 20th Century crimes in Bridgeport and their lurid stories.

Not only was it raining so bad we had to cancel the elephant walk and meal, but State Street was all torn up due to the installation of some fiber optic lines so we would not have been able to have our costumed escorts, who wore witch hats and in the case of the lead elephant rider a complete witch outfit in honor of Halloween and the Mysteries of Bridgeport. The Maltese Falcon is a mystery – after all! Under separate cover I am going to e-mail an image to J. Schwing in hopes he will post it along with this comment.

i stopped & called 911. i know the person got out but not sure their state now. the accident itself was cleaned up in about 1 hr. i was quite freaked out when i got home. i was right behind that person and drove through the debris as it was still coming down. the person was doing at least 100 mph or more. it was by the grace of God that no one else was hurt. if the car turned to the left instead of the right there would have been a 20 car pile-up. i’m still thanking God today.
