Handshakes: Central improved, not ready for Greenwich

Lovely day for baseball in Greenwich.

Lovely day for baseball in Greenwich.

I am truly impressed with how much Central has improved this year and think it is terrific for baseball in Bridgeport to have a competitive team.

They lost to Greenwich 8-1 after scoring the first run of the game and are just not on the level of the top teams.

They tried to manufacture runs with a first and third delayed steal and a straight steal of home but both plays got snuffed out by the Cardinals.

The Hilltopppers need 3 more wins to qualify for states and with their schedule they can do it.

They take on Harding and Bullard Havens and have winable games against Norwalk and Warde on the schedule.

I for one hope they get back after a 9-year absence.

  • To their credit, Greenwich got the bats going early and kept up the pressure, tacking on runs throughout.
  • Ryan Marks gave up a run on back-to-back hits in the first inning but then shut down Central the rest of the way.
  • Vincent Ferraro, Ricky Okazaki and Ryoto Fujikura continue to rake for the Cardinals who are now on the top of the FCIAC standings.

That’s false we went to states and Fciac in 2007! We were 8-2 after 10 games! 9 year absence is completely false! -Ralphy Colon Division One Norfolk State Baseball Alumni

Not that it’s a big deal but it has been 5 years. My 4 years of varsity at central we failed to qualify my freshman year.. Downhill after I graduated… 15-5 season 2007 with first ever FCIAC qual and 3 state appearances … I def don’t think that should be discredited… One of the best Bpt teams in 30 yrs at that point and that was dating back to central winning states… Research CENTRAL PRIDE
