Coming down the home stretch in FCIAC

|

We are 2/3 of the way through the FCIAC baseball season and the top of the standings are what I thought they would be, as you can see in the preview I wrote here.

Four of the current top five teams in the league were the teams I picked to be there with Ridgefield currently in the No. 2 spot and Staples, who I had in the top 5, currently out of the playoffs.

Here are the current standings.

Will Alexander LaPolice and the New Canaan Rams celebrate an FCIAC championship this season?

Will Alexander LaPolice and the New Canaan Rams celebrate an FCIAC championship this season?

1. Greenwich 11-1

2. Ridgefield 9-2

3. St. Joseph 9-2

4. New Canaan 9-2

5. Trumbull 8-2

6. Danbury 7-4

7. Wilton 7-4

8. Westhill 6-5

9. Ludlowe 5-5

10. Warde 5-5

11. Staples 5-6

12. Darien 5-6

  • Most teams have 7 or 8 games left on the schedule, so, these standings could change especially with games like St. Joseph vs Trumbull and New Canaan vs Greenwich still on the schedule but I feel safe in saying the current top 5 will make the FCIAC playoffs, leaving the next 7 battling for three spots.
  • The St. Joseph vs Trumbull game at Harbor Yard Saturday at 7 p.m. should be fun and I urge any local baseball fan to try and make it up to watch two of the better teams go at each other.
  • Greenwich at Westhill Friday at Cubeta Stadium at 4 p.m. also an interesting matchup between border rivals as the Vikings try to get back into the playoffs. (Game would have been great at 6 p.m. with tons of fans showing up but the lights at Cubeta are not working. Ah, Stamford. The City that works. Sometimes.)
  • Warde and Ludlowe play Friday at Harbor Yard at 6 p.m. with huge playoff implications at stake.

Love this time of year, it’s finally warm, the games are more important and the playoffs are right around the corner, so, get out and enjoy some FCIAC baseball.
