Westhill had a rough first inning defensively but were in the game against Greenwich until the Cardinals blew it open late on their way to a 9-0 win.

The Cardinals have allowed one run in their last five games, tremendous pitching and defense.

The triple threat of Ryan Marks, Kyle Dunster and J.T. Hintzen is going to make the Cardinals very tough come playoff time.

  • Westhill sat in the No. 8 spot heading into the game but have a brutal road to close the season with games against Staples, New Canaan, Ridgefield and St. Joseph plus an inter-city game against Trinity, making their path to the playoffs really difficult.
  • Game was at Cubeta Stadium which is always a great place for a ballgame, even if the lights and scoreboard were not operating, it is a huge upgrade over Westhill’s home field which is a dangerous place for infielders with an uneven infield that leads to horrible hops.
  • After the game, Michelangelo “Heart and Soul” Federici of Greenwich was practicing hopping the dugout fence to celebrate a walk-off homerun and he cleared the fence gracefully.
  • Cards have the unusual three-game homestand next week with games against Watertown, Trumbull and Staples.

Trumbull-Greenwich Wednesday is a rematch of last year’s FCIAC final and a must watch for baseball fans.
