Another ND/Bunnell Classic

In less than two weeks I’ve seen two great games between ND-Fairfield and Bunnell.

The kind of games that are fun to cover. When the gyms are packed and the fans are screaming, especially the big Bunnell student section after Ryan Pittman’s layup with 3.6 seconds left that gave the Bulldogs a 67-65 .

You can read all the details here in my game story.

It’s crazy that these two teams have played 64 minutes of basketball in the span of 10 days and all that separates them in a single solitary point. Each game was decided in the final five seconds, to boot. These teams aren’t slouches, either and could well play for the SWC title at the end of February.

What makes these games nice, too, is you have two legit stars out on the court in Notre Dame point guard Danny Upchurch and Bunnell forward Issac Vann. Throw in the toughness of Earl Coleman for Notre Dame and the scoring punch of Matt Nolting for Bunnell and there’s a lot to like out there.

Bunnell coach Pat Yerina sums it up accurately: “We’re a pretty good team, they’re a good team. ”

Even with the loss, Notre Dame looked more dangerous thanks to contributions from CJ Davidson and Kevin Laing.

Thanks to whomever filmed Ryan Pittman’s game-winner and uploaded it, thank you.
