Fairfield Prep guard Thomas Nolan passes the ball in the Jesuits’ SCC semifinal win over Wilbur Cross on Monday.

Hearst Connecticut Newspapers ranks the region’s boys basketball teams (records, first-place votes in parentheses):

1. Fairfield Prep (23-0) (5): Jesuits followed up unbeaten regular season with their first SCC title. The conference tournament wasn’t easy — three victories by a combined 12 points — but they simply found ways to win.

2. Central (22-1): The Hilltoppers’ reign in the FCIAC continues.

3. Greenwich (20-3): The FCIAC runner-up is very good, just not as good as Central.

4. Bunnell (18-5): Bulldogs showed plenty of toughness holding off Kolbe in their run to an SWC repeat.

5. Ridgefield (17-5): Even in defeat, Tigers don’t make it easy on their opponent.

6. Notre Dame-Fairfield (16-5): How will the Lancers respond to their stunning loss in the SWC quarterfinals?

7. Stamford (15-7): If the Black Knights avoid a first-round LL loss, a trip to No. 3 Crosby is likely.

8. Kolbe (15-8): Ultimately, a 16-point deficit was just too much for Kolbe to overcome against Bunnell.

Also receiving votes: Westhill (16-5)
